Having been a customer for many years, Richard joined the team in May 2023. Although being born in Yorkshire, he spent a large part of his early life in South Africa, which is where he first learn to fish. Initially he started bait fishing with friends on the saltwater estuaries throughout the Western Cape before taking up fly fishing. His South African angling experience includes deep sea lure and fly fishing for various saltwater species and mountain stream fishing for trout.

Richard has fly fished in Florida for Spanish mackerel and tarpon, in Iceland for brown trout, while in the UK has fished extensively, including various stillwaters and chalkstreams primarily for trout, but also for pike and grayling. Having moved back to England in 1999, he also regularly returns to fish the Wharfe in Yorkshire.

Once a keen surfer, Richard enjoys all aspects of outdoors activities especially long distance walking (he’s walked the entire 500 miles of the Camino de Santiago), cycling and water sports. As an art college graduate, he continues to have a passion for all things creative, especially photography and print making.
