Schoffel Superlight Ptarmigan Shooting Jacket Review

Schoffel Superlight Ptarmigan Shooting Jacket Review

For the past couple of winters this Schoffel jacket has been a close friend, smart enough to wear in town, tough enough for the occasional shooting foray and worn for the morning dog walk when its cold, wet or windy.

I find it supremely comfortable and really like the way the pockets are designed. The cartridge pockets can be held open with a small strap fitted with a small popper and will swallow a box of 12 gauge cartridges with ease. The hand warmer pockets are perfect for their intended purpose and ideally positioned for warming hands whilst your forearm supports a broken gun on a cold day. The detachable hood is a godsend - out of the way when you don't need it (I keep mine in the poachers pocket) but fits easily and securely in place when the heavens open. The collar protects my neck against a cold wind and does not chafe. The jacket is lightweight as the name suggests and really warm.

The Ptarmigan is machine washable but must be washed in Nikwax Loft Tech Wash to clean and TX Direct to reproof the jackets finish.

Overall - One of my favourite pieces of outdoor clothing and something I would struggle to manage without. So far it has proved to be hardwearing and I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for a quality waterproof jacket.
