Peter McLeod introduces his new book on the iconic species, which is being launched at a special in-store saltwater day at Farlows on 14th September.
Caranx ignobilis, the giant trevally, a powerful apex predator with some novel hunting strategies and a species which offers a serious challenge to any tropical saltwater angler.
Some will be aware of my passion for giant trevally and what started as an idea on Farquhar has gathered momentum into a full blown book. I have hunted the species across the globe for over 12 years now, and in that time I have learned much from those I have been fortunate to fish with.
‘GT – A Flyfisher’s Guide to Giant Trevally’ is an all-encompassing book that covers everything you might need to know about this species and trying to catch them on a fly rod.
It is a combined effort by many who have a similar passion and the book is split into two sections: the first is a guide to the species, history, where to find them, tackle and techniques, flies, fighting and release. The second half is dedicated to the different destinations they are found, including anecdotal stories written by a collection of the pioneers, guides and experts that know the species best.
The book is a 224-page jacketed hardback packed with stunning images throughout. The cost is £30 and it will be available from Farlows from 14th September and I will be happy to sign copies on the day for anyone that wishes.
In addition, there will be a numbered limited edition bound in blue leather in a marine blue slip case which will be £250. These will need to be pre-ordered on the day and will be available from mid-October as they are being hand bound.
